Some health professionals are asking lawmakers in Lansing to impose training and performance standards on those who use radiation machines.
The Michigan Society of Radiologic Technologists are calling for action on a house bill requiring the state to set minimum training and performance standards for people who use the radiation machines for human screening or for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
The group notes that Michigan does have training requirements for those operating mammography and other equipment, but there are no regulations regarding personnel using other equipment that use ionizing radiation.
The MSRT says radiologic technologists throughout Michigan support the measure. The bill is sponsored by House Republican Ben Glardon of Owosso.
