A professor from Northern Michigan University reportedly announced his intentions on the "Fastest Known Times" website and then followed through with a run along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Isle Royale National Park, one right after the other.

Scott Drum believes he has the record.

Drum started at 2:28 a.m Sunday, running the entire 42.5 miles from Grand Marais to Munising Falls.  Then he had a car ride to Houghton where he boarded a float plane headed for Isle Royale and ran the remaining 40 miles along the Greenstone Ridge Trail.

The total distance is 83.5 miles.  NMU reports the entire process consumed just more than 24 hours, but his actual running time was 19 hours, 22 minutes.

Drum is an NMU health and human performance professor.
