Muskegon Heights schools are closed today, while police try to find who shot and killed a young man with a promising future.
It was late in the afternoon when as many as half a dozen shots were fired on Rotterdam Avenue near Fifth, and one of those bullets killed 17-year old Marquis Gresham.
A woman on the scene told WOOD TV how she and her husband tried to comfort the teen as he bled to death from the chest wound.
Gresham had been on his way to a high school banquet, celebrating his basketball team's successful season when he was shot around 5:30 p.m. He was the team's starting center.
