The Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced 14 communities will split up more than $7,600,000 in funding for public infrastructure improvements.
The Michigan Strategic Fund approved the funds which come from the Downtown Infrastructure Grant program.
Governor Snyder says in addition to improving their downtowns the grants will spur additional economic growth in the surrounding areas. The communities will provide more than $2,715,000 in matching funds.
All of the projects located in traditional downtowns, will be completed by December 31 and will support reactivation of public spaces and incorporate design elements.The communities were chosen from 45 applications requesting a total of $18 million with a total of $5.5 million in matching funds and additional $1 million in leveraged funds.
