Mixed Emotions on Proposal to Allow Last Call at 4am

Maybe there would be enough people wanting to stay out drinking until 4 in the morning to make a proposed new law worthwhile, but at least one night club owner in Grand Rapids is not convinced of it.

The state is considering a special 4am closing-time permit that would cost $10,000.

Ricky Penton, one of the owners of Rumors Night Club, tells WOOD TV this city does not have the same nightlife that Chicago and Miami do.

On the other hand, a bartender at Tavern on the Square thinks one night of staying open late would pay for that fee.

Lawmakers also consider demanding bars add more bouncers and surveillance cameras.
