Kent County's Board of Commissioners reached into Cannon Township to fill a vacancy on the Board.

Cannon Trustee Diane Jones was chosen Thursday morning.

She is to replace Gary Rolls, who left the Commission in order to focus on defending himself against charges of criminal sexual conduct and evidence tampering.

Cannon Township's  Supervisor, Steve Grimm, tells WOOD Radio he expects  an application process for someone to replace her at the Township level will open shortly.  The Township Board could appoint a new Trustee within weeks.

Also, County Commissioners have another vacancy to fill.  District Five Commissioner Sandi Frost Steensma announced Thursday morning that she's stepping down after the end of this month.

She pointed to growth in her business and her recent appointment to the Board of Trustees for Lake Superior State University as reasons for stepping down.
