Health care drives up the cost of keeping people in prison.

The Pew Research Center's Maria Schiff tells WOOD Radio there are two reasons, besides the basic health inflation.

She says we have more people in prison and the average age is 55 or older.

Older people have more medical issues and simply cost more.

She says that under Obamacare, prisoners are eligible to be put into the government Medicaid program and suggests that state governments can save money by shifting that healthcare cost to your federal tax pocket.
