Former Allegan County Commissioner Terry Burns pleads guilty to stealing from a man for whom he was acting as guardian.

The Holland Sentinel reports that Burns, who once was a candidate for the state House, said he did not know the law regarding guardianship and claimed he used to borrow money frequently from the now-vulnerable Joseph Migas.

Migas is 84 and has dementia.

The paper says that Burns burned through about half of the man's $170,000 trust fund in three months.  Less than $27,000 was paid back. Reportedly, the balance was spent on Migas.
