Now that the federal government has come to a virtual financial standstil, Coast Guard Station Grand Haven has already trimmed its staff in accordance with mandates driven by the federal shutdown.

Commander Sean Brady says that non-exempted members have been furloughed but active duty members are still reporting for duty.

He adds that all of the emergency services that the Coast Guard provides are not being affected.

All mission critical operations including search and rescue, environmental response and the functions that support those missions are all still happening.
