A guest speaker at Eastern Michigan University has stirred up controversy after likening meat consumption to bestiality.
Published reports state Gary Yourofsky spoke to a sociology class earlier this month, where he compared eating meat and dairy products to bestiality.
Yourofsky went on to compare meat factories to concentration camps and the Holocaust. EMU spokesman, Geoff Larcom, says the school received two complaints from students about the nature of the discussion.
Yourofsky spoke in three of EMU part-time lecturer Luis Sfeir-Younis’ classes.
Larcom says administrators have spoken to Sfeir-Younis to determine the context of the speaker’s appearance, the reaction of students and what happened in class.
No action has been taken against the lecturer, who is still teaching.
