About 1,700 small businesses in Grand Rapids city limits have missed the deadline for the new Michigan exemption on their Personal Property Tax, according to the City Assessor, Scott Engerson.

Lawmakers set an exemption for  commercial and industrial personal property with a combined true cash value of less than $80,000 and the Governor signed that into law last year.

The deadline was February 10th, although in this first year of the new exemption, the new law allows a business to appeal to the March Board of Review.

Engerson says Board of Review petitions (Form 618) and exemption affidavits (Form 5076) are available on-line at the Michigan Department of Treasury website or on the Grand Rapids City Assessor’s website.

Your business, or your business's accountant, has until March 20th at 5 p.m.
